133. Mary Margaret HUBERT was born on 10 November 1920 in Monroe County, WI.28,50 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.28 She died on 19 December 2014 at the age of 94 in Scottsdale, Maricopa County, AZ.149

Obituary Notes: "Mary M. Thompson, 94, of Scottsdale, and formerly of Tomah died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Upon the Rock Assisted Living Center, Scottsdale. Her son, daughter-in-law and grandson were at her side as she passed. She was born Nov. 10, 1920, to Herman and Martha (Mistele) Hubert in Tomah. Mary was a member of Tomah High School Graduating Class of 1939.

She first worked in Tomah at the Ford Garage and then the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. And later, when the Radio School opened in 1942 in Tomah, at what had been an Indian School, Mary started working there as a federal civil service employee, where she met Vickers Thompson. They were united in marriage June 3, 1943. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2012.

She went with her husband to Sioux Falls Air Force Base, and they lived in Sioux Falls, S.D. where she worked as a secretary to the owner of the South Dakota Engraving Company. On Vickers’ next assignment at Truax Field, Madison, Wis., Mary returned to employment as a federal civil service employee. They then moved to Mascoutah, Ill., where a son, Richard, was born at Scott Air Force Base. In 1949, upon transfer to Sandia Base, they lived in Albuquerque, N.M., where a son, Jack was born. The next assignment took them to an air force base in Rapid City, S.D. Later transferring to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif., where the boys began their years in Cub and Boy Scouting while Mary, happily spent countless hours volunteering for those programs. An overseas assignment followed at RAF Alconbury in Huntingdonshire, England, where the family lived in Cambridge for six months and then later on the base. They returned to Sandie Base, Albuquerque, N.M. While, Vickers spent 13 months at Kunson Base, Korea, Mary and the boys lived in Auburn, Calif. They returned to Fairfield, when Vickers was again assigned to Travis Air Force Base. Mary once more joined the workforce as a federal civil service employee. In 1969, their son, Richard, a member of the Green Berets, died in Vietnam and was laid to rest at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Francisco, Calif. In 1970, Vickers retired from the Air Force and began his career as a clock/watch repairman. Mary continued as a civil service employee until 1986 when she retired after 20 years of service. Between 1986 and 2003, Mary and Vickers relocated to Tomah and then Sun City, Ariz., and returning to Tomah in 2003.

Throughout her lifetime, Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and volunteering. Where ever they lived, Mary submersed herself in the local culture, learning the about the people, the history, the customs, and the culinary specialties of each city and area.

She is survived by her son, Jack R. (Judith Ingalls) Thompson of Scottsdale; a grandson, Matthew Thompson; her siblings, Lawrence (Barbara) Hubert of West Salem, James (Janyne) Hubert of Pittsburg, Mo., Cecilia “Ceil” Klapproth of Kenosha, Wis., and Elizabeth Rottman of New Port, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Laura Hubert and Elda Hubert, both of Tomah; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Martha; a son Richard; her brothers, Jerry, Robert, Ray, Bernard and John; and sisters, Margaret Mary, Therese and Sister Gabrielle “Monica” Hubert; and several brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 Monowau St. E., Tomah. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home."
