STEELE and Ruth Mariah WOOD were married in 1862 in Java Village, China Township, Wyoming County, NY.4,5,7 Ruth Mariah WOOD, daughter of Pardon Arnold WOOD and Julia Ann FULLER, was born on 22 February 1843 in Java Village, China Township, Wyoming County, NY.4,8,9,10 (Her obituary listed her middle name as "Maier.") She appeared in the census in 1850 in China Township, Wyoming County, NY.11 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Wales Township, Erie County, NY.12 Ruth died on 21 December 1928 at the age of 85 in Beloit, Beloit Township, Rock County, WI.4,8,10,13 Obituary Notes: "Ruth Maier Wood was born Feb. 22, 1843, at Java, Wyoming County, New York, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. A. Dobbins, Beloit, Dec. 21, 1928, at the age of 86 years, 10 months. She was married to George W. Steele 66 years ago and to this union 11 children were born, two dying in infancy. The surviving children are Clint, Fred and Carl Steele of Warrens; Charlie of Harshaw; Clate of Chetek; Bert and Hattie of Tomah; Addie and Clare of Beloit; two step-daughters, Maude Haskins of Amery, Wis., and Julia of Indiana; 44 grandchildren and 42 great grand-children; one sister, Mrs. Alvira Root of Tomah, besides a host of relatives and friends. Her husband preceded her in death 40 years ago. She came with her family to Tomah in the year 1880. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother and will be greatly missed by the relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held in Beloit on Saturday, Dec. 22, conduced by Elder W. Hartnal. The remains were brought to Wyeville where services were conduced by Elder. L. Houghton on Monday, Dec. 24 at the L.D.S. church of which she had been a member for many years. Pallbearers were her six sons and six of her grand-daughters were flower bearers. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Wood cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. John Garber, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbins, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Clate Steele and son Orla, Chetek; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Steele, Harshaw; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Parman, Fond du Lac; Daniel Root of Austin, Minn.; Nora Root and Frank Root of Madison; Roy Armstrong, Menomonie; Eric VanAlstine, Chetek, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Getman of LaCrosse. We loved her, yes we loved her,
