Descendants of James Steele, Sr.

James Steele, Sr. and his wife, Mary Wright, were born in England in the early-1600's. One of their grandsons, Thomas Steele, and his wife Martha were also born in England and are the earliest-known ancestors of George W. Steele. George married Ruth Mariah Wood in New York state in 1862 and they and ten of their eleven children moved to the Monroe County area in about 1880.

George and Ruth's children married into families such as Burke, Hoag, Garber, Getman, Thompson, Dobbins, Mc Lin, Sorenson and Morse.
