George W. TAFT and Ellen STEVENS were married on 6 August 1899.^2,21,137 (She was raised/adopted by a family named Kruschke, and sometimes used the name "Ellen Kruschke.") Ellen STEVENS, daughter of William H. STEVENS and Ellen Mae STREET, was born on 26 August 1881 in Wernerville Township, Juneau County, WI.²

"She was either put up for adoption or foster care at an early age and was raised by a Kruschke family, and it is possible that she may be listed in some sources as Kruschke rather than Stevens. Her mother had died, as had her sister, and her father just couldn't cope with the loss. Their sons were older and went with their father somewhere in the West."
