He graduated in August 1996 in Columbia, Richland County, SC.^719,720 from the University of South Carolina, with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration.

After graduation, he served an internship with the Crowne Plaza Resort on Hilton Head Island, SC. In 1997, he became the VP/General Manager of Tavern on Greene, a college bistro in Columbia, and he also managed the rock group, "King Hippo."

In October 2003, he passed his state insurance exam and became an Account Representative for AFLAC Insurance in Myrtle Beach, SC. In June 2004, he became a Moving Consultant for Nilson Mayflower Van and Storage in Charleston, SC.

He lived in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County, SC in September 2005.⁷⁹⁶ In September 2005, he passed his real estate exam and began his career as a Realtor at Re/Max by the Sea Realty in Pawleys Island. He and his mother formed "The Griggs Team," one of the most successful Realtor teams in the area, and in January 2009 they moved their business to The Dieter Company. Jon earned his Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation in 2010.

In September 2021, he was "Voted Best Realtor" in the Charleston (SC) Post and Courier Newspaper 2021 Reader's Choice competition. He received the same honor in September 2022. Jon lived in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County, SC in October 2017.³¹⁶ He purchased a new home at 90 Blockade Drive.

His birth began at about 7:15 pm and took almost 1 1/2 hours because of his size.
