140. Stephen VROMAN was born on 24 November 1801 in Schoharie Valley, Schoharie County, NY.20,24,30 (His surname is spelled "Vroman" in the 1850 Census. He lived at his home in Bradford County, PA in 1820.31 When he was 19, he moved to Bradford County to join his parents, who had moved there a few years earlier. He lived there until 1850, when he moved to Monterey, Waukesha, WI. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.24 His occupation is listed as "farmer" and the value of his real estate was $450. He lived next door to his brother Charles and four farms down from his brother William. After 1852 Stephen was a farmer in Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.20,31 In 1852, Stephen bought the farm of 80 acres which his son Ezra later owned. Stephen was at one time the proprietor of a hotel built at Monterey, Wis. about 1857. He remained in hotel-keeping until 1875, when he began farming. He and his son Ezra had the first contract for carrying mail over the route between Summit and Fond du Lac. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.20 He appeared in the census in 1880 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, WI.20 Stephen died on 10 October 1885 at the age of 83 in Monterey, Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.20

Article in "The History of Waukesha County, WI, 1880" re the town of Oconomowoc: "Stephen Vroman, farmer, Section 9; P.O. Monterey, was born in Schoharie Co., NY in Nov. 1801; when 19 years old he removed to Bradford Co. Penn, where he joined his parents, Josiah B. and Susan Vroman, who had removed to that county a few years before that time; here he spent his time at farming till 1850, when, with the family, he emigrated to Wisconsin and located at Monterey, Waukesha Co. He engaged in hotel-keeping and followed that line of business most of the time till 1875, since which time he has devoted his attention to agriculture. He was married in Pennsylvania May 20, 1830, to Miss Polly, daughter of Ezra and Ruthy _____, a native of Bradford Co., Penn; their children are Jacob, now in Adams Co., Wis; Ezra, now proprietor of the Exchange Hotel of Monterey; and Patience, now the wife of L. F. Rowell and lives in Lyon Co., Minn." He was buried after 10 October 1885 in Monterey, Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.32 in the Monterey Cemetery.

Stephen VROMAN and Polly RUTTY were married on 20 May 1830 in Bradford County, PA.31,33 Polly RUTTY, daughter of Ezra RUTTY and Mary "Polly" BLOOM, was born on 12 March 1812 in Bradford County, PA.20,24,31,33 (Her name is listed as Susan in "The History of Waukesha County, 1907." She died on 30 March 1881 at the age of 69 in Monterey, Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.20,32 She was buried after 30 March 1881 in Monterey, Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.20,32 in the Monterey Cemetery.
