Carl Friedrich Wilhelm "Charles" WADEPHUL was born on 24 October 1836 in Jagow, Pyritz, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).4,9 He emigrated on 6 June 1868 from Kreis Stettin (Szczecin) Stadt, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,4,8 on the ship "Weser" from the port in Bremen to New York City. He was naturalized about 1869 in Jefferson County, WI.2 He applied for U. S. Citizenship in October 1868. Charles appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.10 He appeared in the census in 1875 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.11 His household consisted of 2 men and 4 women. After 1874 he was a farmer in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.2,9 Carl became acquainted with Daniel Perry, who had purchased 80 acres in Wilton Township, in 1870. This land was patented by President James Buchanan in 1855. Carl moved his family to a log cabin and worked clearing the land for Mr. Perry. Carl purchased the land on 28 December 1874. Phillip Welch sold them the south 19 acres in 1891, and many artifacts were found there while hand plowing. His brother William bought the north range west containing 40 acres in 1900 from Fred Woetzeman. The family worked the land, producing their own food. Sheep provided wool for yarn, to be knit into warm clothing. A large loom was used for weaving cloth. The farm was improved with a large house, two barns, granary, chicken and pig pens. Carl was a skilled carpenter, and taught Franklin and Edward. They built many homes in the Barron area. Carl's mother, Dorothea, purchased William's 40 acres in 1907, when he moved to Max, North Dakota. Carl worked the farm until the death of his mother, then he purchased the farm from the estate in 1915. He continued to improve the buildings, connecting the two barns, the house was raised to two stories, and a large tool shed and pig barn were built. Carl's grandson Clarence purchased the farm in 1956 and contoured the land for better drainage. In 1971, the farm was sold to one of Clarence's daughters, Jean, and her husband Roger Liefke. They added 35 acres to the west in 1982, and built another house and machine sheds. Jean lived on the property with her husband until they sold it to an Amish family in 2000. The farm had been in the Wadephul family for 130 years. Dorothea Maria "Dora" HEIN, daughter of Hermann HEIN and Dorothea HOGA, was born on 19 October 1839 in Landow, Ummanz, Rugen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).4,5,7,8,9 (The 1900 Census listed her birth date as March 1840. Family records have her birth date as 29 Oct 1839.) She emigrated on 7 June 1866 from Kreis Stettin (Szczecin) Stadt, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,4,6,15 on the ship "Palmerston" from the port of Hamburg to New York City. She appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.10 Dora appeared in the census in 1875 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.11 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.5 Dora appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.16 She was the head of household and her occupation was "Domestic." Two sons and two daughters lived with her, along with her daughter-in-law, Mary. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.6 She was living with her son Frank and his family. She died on 16 August 1914 at the age of 74 in Monroe County, WI.4,7,8 Dora was buried in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.13 in the Noth Family Reformed Lutheran Cemetery.
