Elsie Bell PHELPS was born on 15 July 1888 in Byron Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.^27,36,44,90 (The 1900 Census listed her father's and mother's birth places as Unknown and Wisconsin, respectively. In 1910, it listed them both as Massachusetts.) She appeared in the census in 1900 in Oakfield Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.⁹⁰ She was living with her grandparents. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Oakfield Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.²⁷ Her occupation was listed as "school teacher." Elsie died on 8 December 1981 at the age of 93 in Oakfield Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.³⁶

Obituary Notes: "Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie B. Briggs, 93, of 231 E. First St., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Candlish Funeral Chapel. She died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1981, at St. Agnes Hospital. The Rev. Verlyn C. Harr will officiate, and burial will be in the Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

She was born July 15, 1888, in the Town of Byron, a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Isabelle Wattrous Phelps. On June 22, 1916, she was married to Lynn Briggs at Oakfield.
The couple farmed in the Van Dyne and Lamartine areas. She was a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alice E. Mauthe of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Leslie (Bernice) Egbert of McLean, Va.; three sons, Verol of Odessa, Texas, Rev. Alvin of Bruce, Wis., and Dale of West Bend; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 30, 1946, and by a grandson, great-grandson, four sisters and two brothers."

Elsie Bell PHELPS and Lynn Wilson BRIGGS were married on 22 June 1916 in Oakfield Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.³⁶ They had seven children, all probably born in Byron.) Lynn Wilson BRIGGS was born on 28 April 1888 in Fond du Lac County, WI.³⁶ He died on 30 June 1946 at the age of 58 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Township, Fond du Lac County, WI.³⁶
