Dale James VANDERVORT (+) (~) was born on 1 November 1908 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.60,72,205 (His middle name was the same as that of his paternal grandfather, Alvin James Vandervort.) He appeared in the census in 1910 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.31 He appeared in the census in 1920 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.109 Dale graduated in 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.60,276 from Tomah High School. He appeared in the census in 1930 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.110 He was living with his parents and his occupation was listed as "Laborer, Tire Repair Shop." He appeared in the census in 1940 in Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.277,278 His household was on Lenawee Road and his occupation was "Truck Driver, Cream Route." His total wages in 1939 were $800.

(He and his family cannot be located in the 1950 Census.) Dale died on 14 September 1960 at the age of 51 in St. Louis County, MN.60,279,280 Obituary Note: "Dale James Vandervort of Cornucopia, Wis., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Vandervort of Tomah, was found dead in his trailer house of a heart attack on his job on the morning of Sept. 14. He was born Nov. 1, 1908.

After graduation from Tomah High School in 1927, he worked at the Kennedy Auto Supply here for eight years.

On June 4, 1935 he was united in marriage to Esther Connor of Warrens. They moved to Herbster, Wis., where they lived on a small farm. To this union four children were born--Dean, who preceded his death, Sheila, and twins, Judy and Joan.

Dale worked mostly on government jobs, operating heavy equipment. He spent some time in Guam, Newfoundland, Iceland, the Alaskan Highway, the Dakotas, Minnesota and Illinois. He leaves to mourn, his parents, his wife and daughters, one brother, Fred Vandervort of Milwaukee, three sisters, Mrs. Art Borchardt (Helen), Mrs. Erwin Vroman (Willeene) of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Roland Clay (Freda) of Tomah, also a host of relatives and friends.

Services were from the Catholic church at Cornucopia and burial was at the Herbster Cemetery." He was buried in Herbster, Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.281 in the Herbster Community Cemetery.

Dale James VANDERVORT (+) (~) and Esther Katherine CONNOR were married on 4 June 1935 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.60,86 Esther Katherine CONNOR, daughter of James C. CONNOR and Ellen GRIFFIN, was born on 19 January 1909 in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.60,205,282 She appeared in the census in 1910 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.31 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.109 Esther graduated in 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.276 from Tomah High School. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Wells Township, Monroe County, WI.110 She was a "Boarder" in the household of Emil and Edith Haase and their family on State Trunk 71. Her occupation was listed as "Teacher, Rural School." She appeared in the census in 1940 in Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.277 Esther died on 29 September 2003 at the age of 94 in Fort Collins, Larimer County, CO.283,284 She was buried in Herbster, Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.281 in the Herbster Community Cemetery.

Dean Raphel VANDERVORT (+) (~) was born on 10 January 1937 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.132,205 According to a letter that James LaVerne Griggs wrote to his sister Blanche on 18 January 1937, he read in the paper that Dean weighed 7 1/2 pounds at birth. He appeared in the census in 1940 in Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.277 He died on 9 August 1942 at the age of 5 in Herbster, Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.86 Dean was buried in Herbster, Clover Township, Bayfield County, WI.284 in the Herbster Community Cemetery.
