Elvira Luella LUDEKING was born on 16 August 1904 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.^54,68,69 She was baptized on 16 October 1904 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁶⁹ She appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.³² Elvira appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.³³ She appeared in the census in 1930 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁴ She died on 18 August 1987 at the age of 83 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.^54,68 Elvira was buried on 21 August 1987 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^54,70 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Elvira Luella LUDEKING and William Albert "Willie" KORTBEIN were married on 16 March 1923 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷¹ at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. William Albert "Willie" KORTBEIN, son of Albert Friedrich KORTBEIN and Marie Barbara Louise "Mary" LEIER, was born on 22 January 1899 in Wisconsin.^{32,68,70,72,73,74}

After his mother died in Sept 1906, he was adopted by Albert and Mary Kortbein. He was listed with them in the 1910 Census as "Willie Kortbein."

His mother was Alvina Sommerfield, with whom he was living during the 1900 Census. She had been married to August Polzin and Gust Auerbach, but neither is believed to have been his birth father (Gust died in 1896). The identity of his birth father has not been confirmed. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.^31,75 His household consisted of his mother, "Alveana," a 37-year-old widow; his three sisters, Bertha, age 10; "Ester," age 7; and "Corie," age 5; and "Willie," age 1. He appeared in the census in 1905 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.⁷⁶ (Wisconsin State Census) Willie was adopted in 1906 in Monroe County, WI.^32,77,78 He was adopted by Albert and Mary (Leier) Kortbein after his mother died in September 1906. His surname was changed to Kortbein. He appeared in the census in 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.³² He was living in the household of Albert Kortbein and his family. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁴ Living in his household was his "Uncle," Fred E. Summerfield, a brother of his birth mother. Willie died on 13 May 1974 at the age of 75 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^17,68,70,72 He was buried on 15 May 1974 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^70,72 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
