Obituary Notes: "Martin C. Wildes was born in Michigan, May 10, 1852, and passed away at his home in Warrens, Wis., on Thursday morning, February 10, 1927, at the age of 74 years and nine months. He had always enjoyed the very best of health until about four years ago when it was discovered that an operation upon his hand was necessary for the removal of his thumb. This he submitted to cheerfully, and apparently fully recovered from this, but evidently his general physical condition was somewhat impaired, for soon after his health was noticeably failing. His affliction caused him untold pain and suffering, which he bore patiently and uncomplainingly until the end, which came peacefully.

Early in life he, with his parents, moved to Hillsboro, Wis., where he spent his boyhood days. It was while residing there with his parents that he became converted and was baptized. In 1875 he was united in marriage to Sarah Hartwell of Glendale, Wis., where they resided about six years, when the family moved to Warrens, where they have since resided. To this union there were born ten children. One child passed away in infancy and Mrs. William Gillette passed away on Nov. 29, 1918. His wife preceded him in death on March 27, 1917. Later he was married to Mrs. Mary Davis, who also preceded him in death in March 1925. Mr. Wildes was a highly-respected citizen in our community, where he resided so many years, of good moral character, honest and industrious, devoted to his family and home, always willing to do a good turn for his friends and neighbors.

He leaves to mourn his departure his eight children, namely: Mrs. C. L. Johnston and Warren Wildes, Tomah; Orin Wildes, Madison; Bert Wildes, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. E. O. Johnson, Mrs. H. T. Gilson, Ernest Wildes and Miss Alma Wildes, Warrens; two brothers, Oscar of Elroy and Warren of Blue Earth, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. William Bertleheim, of Wells, Minn.; seventeen grandchildren, besides the members of the First Baptist Church of Warrens, in which he held his membership for a great many years, and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 13, conducted by Rev. J. J. Johnson, pastor of the church. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Warrens Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this hour of sorrow." He was buried on 13 February 1927 in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.8,12 in the Warren Mills Cemetery.
