He appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ He and his daughter Celestine were living with his nephew Lincoln and his daughter Celestine; his wife was not listed with them. His occupation was "Farmer." He died on 11 April 1889 at the age of 63 in Oakdale, Antelope County, NE.^1,12
