He was baptized on 30 March 1845 in Alt Damerow, Kreis Saatzig, Regierungsbezirk Stettin, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^26,27 The sponsors at his baptism were Gottlieb Pergande (his maternal grandfather), Wilhelmine Bartelt, Friedrich Giese (of Alt Damerow), and Johann Wirth (of Sassenhagen). He appeared in the census in 1860 in Brookfield, Waukesha County, WI.⁹ August died about 1869 at the age of 24.¹⁰
