Obituary Notes: "Joy Gertrude (Paddock) Wood, 85, of Tomah, passed away May 24, 2012, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta with her family by her side.

She was born May 17, 1927, to John and Bernice (James) Paddock in the town of Grant, Monroe County, Wisconsin.
Following school she moved to Milwaukee, where she worked at a shoe factory and was a member of three choirs.

She was united in marriage to Ernest L. “Pat” Wood June 12, 1947. Together they lived on a cranberry marsh for many years while their children were growing up. They later moved to Paradise Valley, where she was a member of the Birthday Club. While living in Paradise Valley, their home was located at the bottom of the hill and the school was at the top, therefore their home often was used as a first aid station. Joy sorted cranberries every fall and also provided transportation for school children in her own car for a few years. She worked as a housekeeper for the Holiday Inn in Tomah when it first opened. In the mid 1970s, Joy and Pat owned and operated the IGA store in Warrens for close to ten years.
Joy loved music, and she played piano and sang. She and Pat enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry. She also loved to sew and knit and ran a knitting shop out of her home, where she taught knitting to 4-H groups. Each of her grandchildren received an afghan knitted with love by Joy. Another favorite pastime of Joy’s was remodeling houses. Joy was a member of the American Baptist Women’s League and the Order of Easter Star. More than anything she cherished her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Bev Treu (Bob Bowen) of Sparta, Sandy Wood (Dave Schaldach) of Warrens, Donna Salem of Tomah, Ruth (John G. Jr.) Carey of Houston and Richard (Patricia) Wood of Albert Lea, Minn.;, a son-in-law, Dick Monskey of Tomah; 12 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren; her sister, Beulah Wood of Tomah; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernice; her husband, Ernest “Pat”; a daughter, Becky Wood; a grandson; twin granddaughters; a great-grandson; her brothers, Frank, Jim, Kenneth and Harold Paddock; and a sister, Helena Ann Sherwood.
