200. Alfred LaVern WALTEMATH was born on 30 September 1935 in Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.36,133 He graduated in 1953 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.134 from Tomah High School. He died on 26 October 2011 at the age of 76 in Wyeville, Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.133

Obituary Notes: "Alfred LaVern Waltemath, rural Wyeville, passed away at his home Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the age of 76, with his loving family by his side, after a courageous short battle with cancer.
Alfred was born Sept. 30, 1935, to William and Jennie (Wood) Waltemath in Byron Township. He was baptized Sept. 30, 1935 and confirmed Sept. 14, 1958, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shennington. He was united in marriage to Joyce Meltesen on Dec. 7, 1957. That union brought four sons and one daughter.
Alfred was a 1953 graduate of Tomah High School. He joined the Army in September of 1954 and went off to the Korean War. Alfred was released from duty in June of 1956. He went to journeyman school, and then started working at Oakdale Electric in August of 1956. Alfred retired from REC on Sept. 30, 1997, after 40 ½ years.
Alfred was a member of the American Legion Post No. 201, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shennington, the National Wild Turkey Federation, town of Byron chairman and the Tomah Pool League. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and working at cranberry harvest time on the Jensen Cranberry bogs. He also loved farming with his boys on the land that has been in the family for almost 100 years.
Alfred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce; four sons, Rick (Lisa) Waltemath and their children, Erick (Jessica) and Sara (Travis); Randy (Alicia) Waltemath and their children, Destiny, Annie and Alfred A.; Thomas (Laurie) Waltemath and their children, Brooke and Kyle; James Waltemath and his children, Danielle and Nickolas; a daughter, Karen Waltemath and her children, Mike (Amber) and Kristi (Troy) Baumgarten; seven great- grandchildren, Emmalynn, Amanda, Ashtyn, Blaine, Brilee, Kaden and Benton; one sister, Arlene (Harold) Christensen of Camp Douglas; three brothers-in-law, Herbert (Barb) and Niles (Betty) Meltesen, both of Camp Douglas, and Harland (Donna) Meltesen of Tomah; many nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jennie Waltemath; his mother-in-law, Thelma Meltesen; his fathers-in-law, Andrew Meltesen and Josh Smelcher; brother-in-law Lyle Meltesen; great-grandson William Waltemath; and niece Susan Cornwell.
Funeral services will be held Monday (today), Oct. 31, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Jeff Ruetten will officiate. Burial, with full military honors by Tomah American Legion Post 201, will follow in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Shennington."
