Gorham, 92, of Tomah passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at Close to Home in Tomah. She began her long and colorful life being named after a famous pie maker that her mother read about when she was pregnant. Her parents, Otto and Olga (Henning) Zahrte, brought her into this world Aug. 12, 1922. She was baptized at St. Matthews Lutheran Church at Kirby, and attended Summit Valley grade school and graduated from Tomah High School in 1941. Florieda was united in marriage to Ronald Gorham Sept. 4, 1943, at St. Matthew’s Church in Kirby. In 1946, they purchased a farm in the town of La Grange. Together they made their home and raised their family on the farm. Florieda was an active and hard worker. She spent 40 years actively farming, milking cows, hauling feed, doing bookwork, cooking for hired men, and doing whatever needed doing. She enjoyed raising and tending to chickens her entire life. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and dancing. She was a great cook and loved baking, especially brownies and her famous apple pie, that was loved by all. She also made the best potato salad. Her 30 years of retirement kept her on the go with coffee at McDonald’s, visiting and having lunch with her friends. S he treasured her time spent reading to her great-grandchildren and watching them grow and play outside. She is survived by her daughters, Jean (Mike) Bailey and Rita (Bob) Dreier all of Tomah; foster daughters, Patricia Boyles of Cataract, and Betty (Joe) Conley of Omaha, Neb.; four grandsons, Brian (Jennifer) Bailey, Brent Bailey, Brock (Nelda) Bailey and Mitchell Dreier, (fiance Jessica Brandsma); great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Kendall and Karlee Bailey, and Josie, Teagan and Blair Bailey; brothers, Lorance (Gary) Zahrte of Tomah, and Rubert (Rita) Zahrte of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Jerleen Schlesser of Lake Zurich, Ill.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Olga; her husband, Ronald in 2001; sisters and brothers, Lottie (Stanley) Clifford and Norma (Roy) Robinson, three infant siblings, Hurley, Ruland and Neoma; brothers-in-law, Chester Gorham and Jim Schlesser; a nephew, Burdette Robinson Sr.; a niece, Angela McGarry; and a foster son-in-law, Wesley Boyles Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Burial will follow in the La Grange Cemetery, rural Tomah." .
