Notes from Dick Martin: "I was born there (Cooperstown) but grew up in the "suburbs"; in Milford, a small village 8 miles south of Cooperstown. Milford is a farming community. I lived on a farm until I was 7 then my parents built a new house nearby and stopped farming.

My Dad grew up on a farm but had decided not to take over his family farm. After 3 children and a variety of jobs, he and my Mom decided to give a try at tenant farming when I was one year old. Six years was enough and they moved on to other jobs. My dad sold stuff--primarily autos. My mom ended her work life with a 20-year stint as the statistician of Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown."
