Descendants of Artus Paulus van der Voort

Artus Paulus van der Voort and his unknown wife were born in the present country of Belgium in the mid-1500’s. At that time, the area was part of The Netherlands.

One of their grandsons, Michael Pauluszen van der Voort emigrated to America in the 1630’s and married Maritje “Marie” Rapalje in 1640 in New York state. One of their twelve children, Paulus Michaelse van der Voort was the great-great-grandfather of James Robert Vandervoort, Sr., who settled in Monroe County in 1870.

James Robert married Rebecca McIntyre and Mary Baker and his many children married into families such as Eastman, Flint, Getman, Foss, Taylor, Hunt, Kinne, Fink, McIntyre, Featherly, Johnson and Snow.

All of the original Vandervort families in Monroe County descend from James Robert Vandervoort, Sr.
