Oscar William VANDERVORT Sr. was born on 12 November 1903 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.49,300 He appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.154 He appeared in the census in 1910 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.139 Oscar appeared in the census in 1920 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.140 He graduated in 1922 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.431,486 from Tomah High School. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.259 His family lived at 1008 Kilbourne Avenue and he worked at the "railroad cement plant." Oscar appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.296 His household was at 433 McCaul Street and his occupation was "Common Laborer, Steam Railroad Yards." He died on 7 January 1984 at the age of 80 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.49

Obituary Notes: "Oscar W. Vandervort, 80, of 229 N. Superior Ave., died Saturday, Jan 7, 1984, in his home. He was born on Nov. 12, 1903, in the town of LaGrange to O.D.Y. and Lillian (Gilner) Vandervort. He married Luella Mae Brown on Nov. 30, 1928 in Winona, Minn.

The couple lived in Tomah from 1928 to 1942. They then lived in the Warrens area for 37 years prior to moving back to Tomah. Vandervort was employed by the Milwaukee Road railroad for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1968.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Oscar Jr. and James of Rockford, Ill., and Darryl of Dixon, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Louie (Darlene) Sole of Roscoe, Ill., and Mrs. Clifford (Marjorie) Fader of Belvidere, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth of Racine. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia, and one brother, Alvin.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 2 P.M. in First United Methodist Church, Tomah. The Rev. Arthur Paltridge officiated and burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah." He was buried on 10 January 1984 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.49,172,173 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Oscar William VANDERVORT Sr. and Luella Mae BROWN were married on 30 November 1928 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.49,76,119 Luella Mae BROWN, daughter of Harry Almar BROWN and Auguste Emelia MIELKE, was born on 6 June 1907 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.119,300 She appeared in the census in 1920 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.140 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.259 Luella appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.296 She died on 13 June 1996 at the age of 89 in Mount Morris, Ogle County, IL.49,119

Obituary Notes: "Luella M. Vandervort, 89, of Rockford, Ill., and formerly of Tomah, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 1996, at the Pine Crest Manor in Mt. Morris, Ill. She was born on June 6, 1907, in rural Tomah, the daughter of Harry and Augusta (Mielke) Brown. She was united in marriage to Oscar W. Vandervort on Nov. 30, 1928, until his death on Jan. 7, 1984. She moved to the Rockford area 10 years ago to be with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Oscar (Luella) and James, both of Rockford, and Darryl (Linda) of Dixon. Ill.; two daughters, Darlene (Louie) Sole of South Beloit, Ill., and Marjorie (Clifford) Fader of Belvidere, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; one daughter, Virginia; two brothers, Charles and Vernon; one sister, Rachel; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held today (Monday), June 17, 1996 at 2 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah, with Rev. Wesley Schirmer officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery."
