She appeared in the census in 1880 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.46 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Black River Falls, Jackson County, WI.435 Catherine appeared in the census in 1930 in Manchester Township, Jackson County, WI.435 She died on 27 July 1934 at the age of 54 in Black River Falls, Jackson County, WI.16,143,241 Obituary Notes: "Catherine May Leighton Covey, who died July 27, 1934, at the Krohn hospital in this city, was born in the town of La Grange, near Tomah, in Monroe county, the oldest daughter of Thomas Alva and Caroline Vandervort Leighton, on October 4th, 1879. There was deep regret on all sides when news of Mrs. Covey's death was learned. She had always enjoyed good health and been most active until about two and a half months ago, when first taken ill. She was 54 years, 9 months and 23 days of age at the time of her death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Keefe chapel, conducted by Rev. Fredrick, of Sparta. The song service was rendered by Mrs. M. H. Moen, with Miss Verna Keefe as accompanist. The remains were taken to Shamrock, where a short service was held and interment made in the Union cemetery there. She received her education in the city schools of Sparta, Wisconsin, and was married on October 4, 1898, her nineteenth birthday, to Fred N. Covey. The marriage occurred at the home of her parents in the town of New Lyme, Monroe County. There was born to this union three children, two sons, Gerald Leighton Covey, of Menomonie, Wis., and Robert Fred, who resides at the home of his parents; and one daughter, Vera, who is Mrs. Hollis Jay, of Virginia, Minnesota. Mrs. Covey was a member of the Methodist church, and was an active worked in any church and community in which she lived. She was one of the charter members of the W.C.T.U. of Black River Falls and a former member of the W.R.C., the Methodist Ladies Aid and Royal Neighbor Lodge for years. They settled in Jackson county in 1905 and lived here continuously except for three years, 1907 to 1910, spent at Beach, North Dakota. Mrs. Covey was a fine woman, held in highest esteem by all who knew her. A deeply devoted wife and mother, her greatest interest is ever in her home and family, but she always found time to do a full share in the social, religious and community affairs around her. She will be greatly missed and deep sympathy goes to her bereaved family." . She was buried in Jackson County, WI.16,172,435 in the Shamrock Union Cemetery. Catherine May LEIGHTON and Fred W.
