George Persons VANDERVORT was born on 6 July 1871 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.46,74,119,289 He appeared in the census in 1875 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.69 He appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.46 George appeared in the census in 1900 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.138 His household consisted of George P., age 28, born WI; his wife Mary A., age 25, born WI; their son John, age 6, born WI; Fred Trapp, age 26, a border; and Frank Thomas, age 20, another border. About 1909 he was a resort keeper in Vilas County, WI.289

An article in the "History of Lincoln, Vilas and Oneida Counties, Wisconsin": "Vandervort, George, resort keeper in Vilas County (Vandervort Resort on Lost Lake) was born in Monroe County July 6, 1871, son of Isaac and Laura Foss Vandervort, both now deceased. Educated in native county till age 14, when he went to Oconomowoc, WI with his uncle for two years. Returned to Monroe County and stayed until 21. In 1892 bought 80 acres Town of Lincoln, Monroe County, and farmed, selling in 1908. To Vilas County and established the resort. He was married Oct. 16, 1892 to Mary Ann Couling (b. Nov 29, 1874, Monroe County). They have one son, John T., born Aug 14, 1893."
He died on 4 October 1933 at the age of 62 in Saynor, Vilas County, WI.74,119,175 George was buried in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.73,74 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

From an article in the Tomah Journal: "She was one of the founding members of the Kirby Homemakers Club, which was organized 15 December 1928 at Ella Sell's home. The members were Ella Sell, Mary Ann Vandervort, Mae Edgerton, Norma Randall, Martha Stellings, Gayle Arity, Ida Rowan, Lottie Rose, Lulu Dickinson and Ida Gabower. Mabel Sweet and Mary Vandervort joined at the second meeting.

Some early lessons included reed weaving, rug braiding, upholstering, making foot-stools, sulphured apples, toilet soap and dress forms.

The latter proved hilarious. One member put a gauze short-sleeved shirt on over her girdle. Then members pasted her shut by covering the shirt with gummed paper tape. When dry, it was like wearing a suit of armor. Then someone snipped from the back of the neck down, from the bottom of the shirt up; same in the front. The two pieces were pasted together, put on a standard, and, like it or not, there was your shape." She appeared in the census in 1880 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.46 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.259 She was living with her father and was listed as "Divorced." Mary died on 23 May 1945 at the age of 70 in Saynor, Vilas County, WI.175,291 She was buried in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.74,291,292 in the Lincoln-Patterson-Kirby Cemetery.
