Her surname is listed as "Palling" in most sources on Ancestry.com, as "Pauling" in her Find-a-Grave cemetery record, as "Pullen" in some Root family records, and as "Pulling" in some Griggs family records. David O. Pulling (LVXY-7VB) and his wife Dacy (LVF8-TJB) filed an affidavit in support of the Civil War Widow's Pension (WC96873) of Clarinda Pulling's daughter Harriet Knapp Root, so they were likely her relatives.

The 1800 Census for Ballston, Saratoga County, NY contains the family of Augustus Pulling.
