William Warriner, also known as Warringer, was the original ancestor who came to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1638. William appeared among the pioneers of Springfield in 1638. He was a widower at least 57 years old when he married Jonna Scant in 1639, some say that she was Joanna Searle, but the record is clear that she was Scant. Jonna died in 1660 and in 1661 he married Elizabeth Gibbon, widow of Luke Hitchcock, of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Elizabeth was the mother of Hannah, John and Luke Hitchcock, Elizabeth survived William and then became the 3rd wife of Joseph Baldwin of Hadley. William owned a large part of Springfield. His house stood where the old Courthouse stands now, on the north side of the First Congregational Church, in front of Court Square. He lived in Springfield for 38 years. There is no record of his grave. A book, the Pioneers of Massachusetts, by Charles Henry Pope pub. in 1899 had the following excerpt: Warriner, William, Springfield, frm. May 2, 1638, Propr; town officer. Signature in town records, 1649, He m. 31 (5) 1639, Johanna Scant. Ch. James b. 21 (11) 1640, Hannah b. 17 (6) 1643, Joseph b. 6 (12) 1644. Division of his estate was made by agreement Sept 27, 1676 between the widow Elizabeth and her ch. James, and Joseph W. and Thomas Noble. William owned land in the center of Spfld where the city hall/Congregational Church now stand. There was also a cemetery there where he and sons were buried, but the cemetery was closed and bodies removed to Springfield Cemetery on Maple St., Springfield. 2835. Joanna SCANT (*) was born in 1602 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. She died on 24 February 1688 at the age of 86 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. Children were:
