Obituary Notes: "Genevieve M. Muehlenkamp, 101, of Tomah entered her eternal rest Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Agape Acres, Warrens, Wis. Genevieve was born July 20, 1913, Genevieve Margaret Berendes to Frank and Erma (Ebert) Berendes, in the town of Ridgeville, near Norwalk, Wis.

She lived here until meeting her future husband, Carl Muehlenkamp. They were married at St. John Catholic Church, Summit Ridge, Aug. 19, 1930. They lived in Norwalk for a short time and later moved to a farm three miles from Oakdale, where they lived and raised their nine children.

She worked hard on the farm, nurturing her children, giving them a strong work ethic, and striving to teach them to just be a good person. Her door was always open, welcoming visitors. She always had homemade sweets for those who stopped in.

Genevieve was a member of the Diamond Valley Homemakers, and an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan. There were many nights she would stay up for those extra-inning games. She even went to a few herself.

Carl passed away in 1972; she then moved to Oakdale in 1974 where she lived until 1990 before moving to Tomah. While she lived in Oakdale, she spent much of her time making quilts for her family and “coffee clutching: with friends at the Stockman’s Restaurant in Oakdale. She formed many close friendships during these years. She very much enjoyed traveling and made it to 48 of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico. Some of her traveling companions included her sister, Lucille, and several of her Oakdale friends. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends and was a pillar of strength when needed and always had a special place in her heart for the little ones; always a smile on her face and a welcoming lap for them.

Genevieve was a devout member of St. Michael’s Parish, Indian Creek, all of her married life, until she moved to Tomah where she joined St. Mary’s Parish. For the past 11 years of her life, she has called Agape Acres Assisted Living, Warrens, her home; where the girls have taken very good care of her.

Genevieve is survived by six of her children, Charlotte Muha of Greenfield, Wis., David (Betty) of Oakdale, Linda (Ron) Schultz of LaHabra, Calif., Eunice Daily of Hartford, Wis., John (Jean) of Camp Douglas, and Charles (Susan) of Puyallup, Wash.; 32 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Yvette Muehlenkamp of Camp Douglas and Maria Muehlenkamp of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Alice Schmidt of Norwalk, Wis.; and other relatives and friends.
