His reign was marked by ineffective governance during the Thirty Years' War. He was the father of Frederick William, the "Great Elector". He was buried in Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad Urban Okrug, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia.³ in the Konigsberg Cathedral
