218. Clarence Alvin BRIDGERS Sr. (:) was born on 26 July 1911 in Margarettsville, Northampton County, NC. (He may have been born in Durham County, NC.) He appeared in the census in 1920 in Portsmouth (Independent City), VA. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Portsmouth (Independent City), VA. Clarence graduated in 1930 in Portsmouth (Independent City), VA. from Woodrow Wilson High School. Yearbook note: "Clarence is a very business-like and efficient boy. We know he will be very successful in life." He was educated in 1932 in Weaverville, Buncome County, NC. He attended Weaver College. He lived in Savannah, Chatham County, GA in 1935. (Chatham County is located in the U.S. state of Georgia, on the state's Atlantic coast. The county seat and largest city is Savannah. One of the original counties of Georgia, Chatham County was created February 5, 1777, and is named after William Pitt, the 1st Earl of Chatham.) He registered for the Military Draft in 1940 in Charleston, Charleston County, SC. At the time of his draft registration, his residence was at 241 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC and he was employed at the U.S. Navy Yard in Charleston. Clarence appeared in the census in April 1940 in Guyton Township, Effingham County, GA. He and his wife and oldest son were living with his wife's mother. At the time of the census, he had completed 2 years of college. His occupation was "Machinist, SAL R.R." and his Total Wages in 1939 were $900. He lived in Savannah, Chatham County, GA in 1950–1960. His residence was at 201 West Gwinnett and his occupation was "Machinist." Clarence lived in Gardena, Los Angeles County, CA in 1970. His residence was at 539 Collamer Drive. He died on 22 October 1978 at the age of 67 in Chatham County, GA. He was buried in Springfield, Effingham County, GA. in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Clarence Alvin BRIDGERS Sr. (:) and Theresa Corrie SECKINGER (:) were married about 1938. Theresa Corrie SECKINGER (:), daughter of George Pendleton SECKINGER and Corrie Theresa WALDHAUER, was born on 6 February 1916 in Springfield, Effingham County, GA. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Effingham County, GA. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Effingham County, GA. Theresa appeared in the census in April 1940 in Guyton Township, Effingham County, GA. She and her husband and oldest son were living with her widowed mother. She appeared in the census in 1950 in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. She died on 20 May 1987 at the age of 71 in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA. Obituary Notes: "Mrs. Theresa Seckinger, 71, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a long illness. She was the mother of the Rev. Kirk P. Bridgers of Atlanta. She was a native of Springfield, Ga., having lived most of her life in Savannah and had been a resident of Atlanta for the past 1 1/2 years.

She was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Springfield. She was past Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are four sons, the Rev. Kirk P. Bridgers, Atlanta; Clarence A. Bridgers, Jr., and R. Neal Bridgers, both of Savannah; Robert C. Bridgers, Fernandina Beach, Fl; a sister, Mrs. Edith S. Pevery, Guyton; two brothers, Lt. Col Ret. G. Murl Seckinger, Garden City; one granddaughter, and six grandsons.

Funeral 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Springfield. Interment in the church cemetery. Remembrances may be given to Peachtree Road Lutheran Charitable Trust c/o 3686 Peachtree Rd., N.E. Atlanta, Ga. 30319. Thomas C. Strickland Funeral Home, Springfield, in charge." Theresa was buried in Springfield, Effingham County, GA. in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
