Roland Theodore CRAWFORD and Gertrude Ruth "Gert" WALTEMATH were married on 30 March 1945 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.38 Gertrude Ruth "Gert" WALTEMATH, daughter of William WALTEMATH and Mary S. BUSHING, was born on 9 October 1924 in Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.16,38 She died on 27 March 2006 at the age of 81 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.38

Obituary Notes: "Gertrude R. Crawford, 81, of Warrens, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born Oct. 9, 1924, in the Town of Byron. She was united in marriage to Roland Crawford on March 30, 1945, in Sparta. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1969. Before establishing the Eagle’s Nest Resort in 1956, they trapped and traded furs in the area. They operated the resort for 20 years. She volunteered her time and services in support of the Cutler Volunteer Fire Dept. She was always willing to help people. Gert made hundreds of quilts for the church and her family. She made mittens for elementary school children. She was an excellent cook, and worked in her daughter’s candy kitchen. She enjoyed being outdoors and liked farming and working with her hands. She helped on the St. John’s Cemetery Board, and was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Gert was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by a son, Raymond (Linda) Crawford of Camp Douglas; two daughters, Joann Keeney of Camp Douglas and Anna (Kevin) Krueger of Warrens; six grandchildren, Tina (Nick) Becerra, Heidi (Kevin) Kemp, Lisa Polson, Dr. Shannon (Kevin) Koehler, Ryan and Andy Krueger; four great-grandchildren, Kristina and Justin Becerra and Dylan and Ashley Kemp; a brother, Harold Waltemath of Wyeville; and a sister, Goldie (Robert) Hanson of Camp Douglas. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles “Charlie” Keeney in June of 2003; by her husband; a son, Thomas, in 1952; her parents; three brothers, William, Frederick and Clarence Waltemath; a sister, Martha Jensen, and close friends Chuck and Jack.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shennington. Pastor Maxine Gray will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service."
