He served in the military between December 1779 and October 1880 in Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America.46 He served as a Private in the Massachusetts Regiment in the Revolutionary War.

John Carpenter's co. of guards stationed at Springfield; enlisted Sept. 30, 1779; discharged Dec. 30, 1779; service, 3 mos.; company raised for 3 months from time of joining at Springfield; also, Capt. Moseley's, Capt. Kellog's, or Lieut. Sait's cos.; return of 3 and 6 months men raised in Hampshire Co. from (late) Col. Moseley's regt. by order of Brig. Gen. Danderson, dated Hampshire Co., Oct. 26, 1780; engaged for town of Westfield; term, 3 months; also, Private, Capt. Levi Ely's co., Col. John Brown's regt.; enlisted July 20, 1780; discharged Oct. 22, 1780; service, 3 mos. 11 days, travel included; company raised for 3 months." Oliver appeared in the census in 1810 in Westfield, Hampden County, MA.47 His household consisted of 2 males, age under 10; 1 male, age 11-16; 1 male, age 16-26; 2 males, age over 45; 2 females, age under 10; 1 female, age 11-16; 1 female, age 16-26; 1 female, age 26-45; and 1 female, age over 45. He died on 20 January 1845 at the age of 81 in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, OH.5,45 He has Ancestral File Number J19J-84. Oliver was buried in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, OH.45,46 in the Harrington Cemetery.
