Descendants of Josiah Dewey

Josiah Dewey and his wife, Mehitable Miller, are the earliest-known ancestors of the Dewey families that lived in Monroe County. They were born in the mid-1400's.

One of their descendants, Sir Simeon Dewey, was born in the mid-1550’s in Sandwich, Kent County, England. He is the earliest known ancestor of Mary Minerva Dewey, who married Ira James Root in 1870 in Adrian Township.

Ira was a great-grandson of Josiah Root, who was born in 1756 in Connecticut, and is the earliest known ancestor of Eva Jane Root.

Eva married Samuel Hiram Griggs, a son of Clarence Lucius Griggs and Carrie Permelia Griswold, in 1908.
