Martin Ludwig "Lewis" FRIESKE Sr. was born on 10 October 1847 in Schokken, Kreis Wongrowitz, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).¹⁴ (He was listed as "Louis," age 16 in the 1870 Census; his age was an error.) (His family's surname is listed as "Frisco" in the 1880 Census.) He was christened on 31 October 1847 in Schokken, Kreis Wongrowitz, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).⁶ at the Evangelisch Kirche. He emigrated in 1869 from Preussen (Prussia).^10,15 (The 1900 Census lists his emigration year as 1869 and the 1920 lists it as 1870.) Lewis was Lutheran in 1874 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁴ He was one of the first seventeen charter members who formed St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.² His household was next to that of his parents and his occupation was "Farmer." (His surname was listed as "Frisco.") Martin Ludwig "Lewis" FRIESKE Sr. and Belline Albertina "Albertine" STEINKE were married in 1876.^7,10,26 At the time of the 1900 Census they had been married for 24 years and the enumerator indicated that they had 6 children, of whom all were living at the time. That is not correct, because two of their children--Emma and Delia--had died before 1900. Belline Albertina "Albertine" STEINKE⁶ was born on 2 January 1853 in Preussen (Prussia).^2,10,25,26 (Her name is spelled Albertena in the 1880 Census.)
