GOETZKA¹ was born on 19 January 1833 in Belgard, Belgard/Persante, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^2,3 (The city of Belgard is now located in Poland and its name has been changed to Bialogard.) (His birth date was listed as May 1834 in the 1900 Census.) He emigrated in 1884 from Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^3,4 (The 1900 Census listed his emigration year as 1873, but that is believed to have been incorrect because various census records for his wife and children indicate 1884.) He appeared in the census in 1900 in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.³ He and his wife were living with their son Alvin. August died on 2 March 1902 at the age of 69.^1,2 He was buried at Knapp Cemetery in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.⁵ He has Ancestral File Number LZKH-8PF.⁶

August H. GOETZKA and Mathilde "Matilda" BUNDE were married about 1860.^2,3,4 (According to the 1900 and 1910 Census records, they had 8 children, of whom 6 were living at the time.) Mathilde "Matilda" BUNDE, daughter of Danial BUNDE and Anna Lowiese HAGEN, was born on 4 May 1840 in Belgard, Belgard/Persante, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^2,3,7 (It is very likely--but has not been confirmed--that she was a daughter of Unknown and Anna Bunde, and a sister of Charles and Wilhelm Bunde. They were born a few years after she was, emigrated to America at the same time, and also settled in Knapp Township.)

(Her birth date was listed as Oct 1842 in the 1900 Census.) She emigrated in 1884 from Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).⁴ She appeared in the census in 1900 in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.³ Matilda appeared in the census in 1910 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴ She was living with her son Alvin. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ She was living with her son Alvin and his family. She died on 29 August 1925 at the age of 85.^1,2 (The MyHeritage.com website lists her date of death as August 1924.) Matilda has Ancestral File Number LZKH-8BL.⁶
