201. Harry Lyle HESER1 was born on 14 August 1925 in Monroe County, WI.59 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.33 He died on 11 September 2007 at the age of 82 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.105

Obituary Notes: "CW4 Harry L. Heser (Retired), age 82, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at the Tomah VA Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 14, 1925, to Vern and Ruth (Hoag) Heser. Harry served in the United States Navy during WWII from November of 1943 through May of 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific, including Guam, Philippines, China, Japan, Iwo Jima, North Korea, New Caledonia and Taninan (Taiwan). He then entered in the Naval Reserve and Army National Guard in 1949 and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 132nd Spt Bn. after 43 years of military service.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Sowle on Nov. 29, 1946. Harry went to work for CSMS and started in the tool crib room in 1951. He was later offered a job to work in the office, and from there he went to the warehouse, where he retired as Supervisor after 35 years of service. While working for CSMS, he also worked for Miller’s drugstore from 1968 until he retired in 2000 at the age of 75. Harry was very active in the Tomah community and belonged to the American Legion Post #201, the DAV, the Camp Douglas Masons, and VFW Post #1382 where he served as Commander. He also served as head usher and deacon at his church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and watching the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of Tomah; his children, Ruthanne (Deane) Volzka of Rhinelander, Patricia Mennicke of Tomah, Susan (Rick Griffin) Heser of Tomah and Herbert (Ann) Heser of Tomah; a brother, Robert (Elinor) Heser of Torrance, CA, and a sister, Verneta Anderson of Janesville; 10 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Ruth; his father and mother-in-law, Herb and Lily Sowle; a grandson, Robert Heser; brothers-in-law, Cliff Anderson and Charles, Howard Sowle; sister-in-law, Louise Heser, and sister-in-law, Shirley Brightwell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Tomah. Pastor Edwin Stigen will officiate. Full military honors by Tomah VFW Post #1382 will follow the service. Family and friends are invited for visitation today (Thursday), Sept. 13, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Friday from noon until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements."

Obituary Notes: "Gloria Ann Heser, 88, of Tomah, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at the Mayo Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 16, 1924, to Herbert and Lily (Sarney) Sowle in Tomah. Gloria was united in marriage to Harry Heser on Nov. 29, 1946.

She is survived by her children, Ruthanne (Deane) Volzka of Rhinelander, Wis., Patricia (Mark Elliott) Mennicke of Tomah, Herbert (Ann) Heser of Tomah, Susan (Rick Griffin) Heser of Tomah, and Verneta Anderson of Janesville, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Julie Stone, James (Tracy) Volzka, Keith Frye, Scott (Shawn Huml) Frye, Daniel (Alyssa) Heser, David (Cassie Adamietz) Heser, Emma Heser, Tarry (Meghann Madigan) Wiltsie, John (Bethany Peak) Heser and Kathryn (Ben Gerhardt) Griffin; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence (Marian) Sowle of Richland Center, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Lily Sowle; her husband, Harry; a grandson, Robert Heser; brothers, Charles and Howard Sowle; and sisters, Shirley Brightwell and Katherine Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 5, 2013, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Tomah. Pastor Edwin Stigen will officiate."
