2. Robert HOWIE Sr. was born on 6 August 1830 in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland.^1,3 in Ayrshire. He emigrated on 4 July 1856 from Scotland, United Kingdom.^1,3,4 He landed in New York on July 4th and came right to Tomah with Robert E. Gillett, the founder of Tomah. He was the first to carry the U.S. Mail from Tomah to Sparta, and he served with C. C. Miller. He 1858, he became a farmer.

He later donated land that was to become the Monroe County Fairgrounds. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ Robert appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^6,7 His occupation was listed as "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.² His household was located at 323 Clifton Avenue. It was later occupied by his son, Robert, Jr.
He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ Robert died on 16 February 1913 at the age of 82.³ He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^3,9 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Robert HOWIE Sr. and Agnes ALEXANDER were married in 1871.^1,2,3,4,10 According to the 1900 Census, they had 10 children, of whom 6 were living at the time. Eventually, they had 11 children, 4 dying in infancy. Agnes ALEXANDER was born in November 1853 in Scotland, United Kingdom.^2,3,4,9 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.² She appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.² Agnes appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ She died in 1942 at the age of 89.⁹ She was buried in 1942 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁹ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
