Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig "Fred" KUCKUCK was born on 16 February 1812 in Hanover, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,3,4,5 (The 1860 and 1870 Census' listed his birth place as Hanover; in 1880 it was listed as Prussia.) He emigrated about 1857 from Preussen (Prussia).3 . He appeared in the census in 1860 in Germantown Township, Juneau County, WI.3 His household consisted of Fred, age 48, occupation "farmer," born in Hanover; his wife Wilhelmina, age 35, born in Hanover; their children Augustus, age 12; Henry, age 8; and Wilhelmina, age 5, all born in Hanover; and Caroline, age 2,and Dora, age 1, born in Wisconsin. There were also two other people: Fred, "Laborer," age 24; and Hannah, age 16, both born in Hanover. Neither appears with the family in later Census records. The younger Fred would have been too old to be a son of Wilhelmina, so it is possible that he may have been a son from a previous marriage of Fred, Sr, who married Wilhelmina when he was 35. Hannah may have been the wife of Fred, Jr. or another daughter of Fred, Sr. from a first marriage. . Fred appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.4 His household consisted of Fred and Wilhelmina, and their children Henry, age 18; Wilhelmina, age 16; Elizabeth, age 9; "Emily," age 7; Louis, age 2; and Frank, age 1. Fred's occupation was listed as "farmer." . He appeared in the census in 1875 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 His household consisted of 5 males and 3 females. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.2 His household consisted of Fred and Minnie, and their children Henry, age 27; "Lizzie," age 18; Emma, age 16; Louis, age 13; Frank, age 11; and George, age 9. Their household also contained Conrad, age 66, a "brother." Fred's occupation was listed as "farmer." . Fred died on 24 November 1891 at the age of 79.5 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig "Fred" KUCKUCK and Sophie Wilhelmine Henrietta "Minnie" SWEKING were married about 1847 in Preussen (Prussia).7 Sophie Wilhelmine Henrietta "Minnie" SWEKING1 was born on 11 August 1826 in Hanover, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,3,4,5,8,9 (The Oak Grove Cemetery records list his birth date as 11 Aug 1826, The 1900 Census listed it as Aug 1825.) (The 1860 and 1870 Census' listed her birth place as Hanover; in 1880 it was listed as Prussia.) (Her surname may also have been spelled "Pieper" but it is listed as "Peifer" in the Marriage Certificates of her sons Frank and Henry.) She emigrated about 1857 from Preussen (Prussia). . She appeared in the census in 1860 in Germantown Township, Juneau County, WI.3 Minnie appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.4 She appeared in the census in 1875 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.2 Minnie appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.9 (She was living with her son "Lewis" on Superior Avenue.) She appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10 She was living with her daughter Minnie and her husband. She died on 26 January 1915 at the age of 88 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5,8,11 Obituary Notes: "Mrs. Fred Kuckuck, an aged resident of Tomah and vicinity, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Freemore of this city. Mrs. Kuckuck, who was a widow, has been in poor health for a few years past and made her home with her daughter here. She was able to be about the house until a few days before her death. She was born in Germany and was nearly 90 years of age. She is survived by two sons, Frank of Arkansas and George of Illinois; and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Gabower of Oakdale and Mrs. Freemore of Tomah. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church." Her obituary does not mention her other children. Minnie was buried on 29 January 1915 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5,11 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. . (Some sources list her surname as Piefer.)
