58. Reuben F. LAMB Sr. was born on 14 September 1742 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America.2,7 Reuben was a sober, industrious, exemplary man of good habits, a mechanical genius. He was large-boned and rugged, straight built, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He kept house for a year in Ward, MA, and then traded for a place in Oxford consisting of 7 acres with a house and a gristmill. Fifty acres were added later. He lived there the rest of his life, working as a miller and a carpenter, making wagon wheels, hand rakes, and most of the coffins used in that vicinity. He made the coffins of pine wood, painted them black, and sold them for $1 each. By industry and frugality he accumulated a handsome property, which was nearly lost in Shay's Rebellion of 1786. During the last 7 years of his life he was almost helpless because of palsy of his right hand; his speech was impaired as well. In 1810 he transferred his property to his son Joseph in return for his own and his wife's support. Before 1819 he was a carpenter in Ward Reservation, Essex County, MA.5 He died on 12 November 1819 at the age of 77 in Oxford, Worcester County, MA.5 Reuben F.
