There is only one known city of Brenz, and that is in Bavaria, not Mecklenburg.) (They were 1st Cousins.) August Christian Ludwig "Christian" MARTEN, son of Johann Joachim MARTEN and Anna Christina RUMPEL, was born on 11 December 1828 in Spornitz, Neustadt, Kreis Ludwigslust-Parchim, Mecklenburg-Schwerin Province, Preussen (Prussia).^2,13 He emigrated in 1855 from Spornitz, Neustadt, Kreis Ludwigslust-Parchim, Mecklenburg-Schwerin Province, Preussen (Prussia).² He appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ Christian was Lutheran in 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁴ He was listed in the Church Register as member number 17 of the first 100 members of the congregation of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
