Kewit, 86 of Tomah, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born on Jan. 16, 1925, to Paul and Anna (Marquardt) Kewit in the town of Ridgeville. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was united in marriage to Shirley Wagner on June 26, 1954. Jim was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Before his retirement, Jim was a local hay and corn dealer. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his children, Tom Kewit of Tomah, Robert (Connie) Kewit of Tomah, Kathy (David) Allard of Radcliffe, Ky., and Paul (Margaret) Kewit of Tomah; two grandchildren, Jerry Kewit of Tomah and Joshua Allard of Kentucky; a sister, Ardella Gerke; three stepsisters, Viola Pfaff of Onalaska, Dorothy Peterson of Sparta and Hattie Croy of Sacramento, Calif.; a step-brother, Willard Schultz of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Kewit of Tomah and Jean Kewitt of Florida; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christina Kewit; sisters Beatrice Wakefield, Gertrude Oakes, Ada Miller, Margaret Drews, Helen Westpfahl, Violet Farmer, Jeannette Becker; an infant sister, Ruth; two brothers, Harold Kewit and Kenneth Kewitt; and nine brothers-in-law. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Curt S. Backhaus will officiate.
