During high school, she was the girlfriend of Carroll Eugene Griggs. Gary Griggs has Carroll's diary, in which he often talks of his love for Isla. On September 20, 1918, his entry says: "Took Isla to H.P Dance. Had a dandy time. She is one of the very best there is." Carroll died two months later during the Spanish Influenza epidemic.

In the mid-1990's, Gary's mother, Bernice Pergande Griggs, showed the diary to Isla, then a widow. She had no idea that Carroll had kept a diary, and enjoyed seeing his comments about her.

VINZ, was born on 8 August 1897 in Stoneham Township, Chippewa County, MN.171,466 After 1921 he was an owner of the Kennedy Auto Supply in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.467 The business was first known as the Exide Battery Station. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.168 Forrest died on 11 May 1990 at the age of 92 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.171,466 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.466 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
