Lucy Virginia WHITCHURCH was born on 10 August 1908 in Savannah, Nodaway Township, Andrew County, MO.^{382,403,404,546,547} (She was listed as "Lucy V." in the 1910 Census and in the 1941 Ship's Manifest for her return from South Africa, and as "Virginia W." in the Social Security Death Index.)

She donated a large collection of Griggs family letters to the Vermont Historical Society (http://www.state.vt.us/vhs/arccat/findaid/griggs.htm). The letters were written by various family members to the family of Stephen "Roswell" Griggs, her paternal great-grandfather. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Maryville, Polk Township, Nodaway County, MO.⁴⁰⁴ She appeared in the census in 1920 in Savannah, Nodaway Township, Andrew County, MO.²⁴⁶ Lucy appeared in the census in 1930 in St. Joseph, Washington Township, Buchanan County, MO.⁴⁰³ Her name was listed as "L. Virginia" and she was living with her parents. She on 19 October 1941 in New York City, Kings County, NY.⁵⁴⁷ She arrived at the port of New York from Capetown, South Africa, with her children, James and Margaret. Her husband did not accompany them. Her occupation was listed as "Housewife."

She apparently had lived in South Africa for several years because the birthplace of Margaret was listed on the manifest as Johannesburg. The "Last Permanent Address" for her and her children was listed as Kimberly, South Africa. She lived at her home in Columbia, Boone County, MO about 1980.⁵⁴⁶ She was living in Columbia at the time that she donated to the Vermont Historical Society her collection of Griggs Family Letters. Her address may have been 3710 South Lenoir Street. Lucy died on 10 March 1999 at the age of 90 in Columbia, Boone County, MO.³⁸² (At the time of her death, she was living in Columbia, Boone County, MO.)

Lucy Virginia WHITCHURCH and Eric John Millington SOUTHWOOD were married on 2 August 1931 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO.^175,403,546 Eric John Millington SOUTHWOOD was born on 3 June 1901 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.^175,547 He served in the military He was a member of the South African Air Force. in 1941 in Pretoria, South Africa.⁵⁴⁷ He died on 31 July 1954 at the age of 53 in Denver, Denver County, CO.¹⁷⁵ Eric was buried on 4 August 1954 in Savannah, Nodaway Township, Andrew County, MO.¹⁷⁵

Lucy Virginia WHITCHURCH and Eric John Millington SOUTHWOOD had the following children:

530	i.	Robert Eric SOUTHWOOD was born on 25 May 1933 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA.⁵⁴⁷ He died on 26 May 1933 at the age of 0 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA.
531	ii.	Margaret Elizabeth "Margy" SOUTHWOOD⁴⁰⁸ was born on 16 April 1938 in Johannesburg, South Africa.⁵⁴⁷ She was listed as a citizen of South Africa on the ship's manifest for her voyage to America on 19 October 1941.⁵⁴⁷ On the ship's manifest, she was described as 3' 3" tall, with fair complexion, brown hair and brown eyes, and in good health. She died on 20 December 1956 at the age of 18 in Missouri.⁴⁰⁸ She died in a car accident.
