4. Estella Wrago "Stella" ROWLEE¹⁹ was born on 30 May 1890 in Utica, LaSalle County, IL.^2,20,21 She appeared in the census in 1900 in La Salle Township, La Salle County, IL.^2,7,8

(She cannot be located in the 1910 or 1920 Census. She reportedly married Harry Stuart in 1906, but they cannot be located in 1910; nor was she living with her parents or her sister or brother in La Salle County, Illinois. At the time of the 1920 Census, she may still have been still married to Harry Stuart, but that is not known for sure. She was probably living in Illinois, but she cannot be located.)

. She died on 17 February 1929 at the age of 38 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.^22,23

Obituary Notes: "Mrs. E. R. Herzberg Succombs in Chicago. Mrs. Estelle Rowlee Herzberg, a former resident of Dexterville and Pittsville, died at her home in Chicago on February 17, according to word received here today.

Funeral services were held in Chicago, the remains were placed in a vault there. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her husband, one daughter, Wilamae (sic); her father, Arthur Rowlee; one sister, Mrs. William Ward, Nekoosa; and one brother, Frank Rowlee, Dexterville."

Obituary Notes: "Estelle Herzberg, beloved wife of William Herzberg, mother of Wilamae (sic), sister of Mrs. Iona (sic) Ward and Bud Rowlee, daughter of Mr. Arthur Rowlee. For information, call Lincoln 1463. Chicago Daily Tribune, Feb. 18, 1929"

. Stella was buried in February 1929 in Forest Park, Cook County, IL.²⁴ in the Forest Home (also called Forest Park) Cemetery. (Her middle name appears to be listed as "Wrago" on her marriage license in 1906.)

Estella Wrago "Stella" ROWLEE and William Leonard "Bill" HERZBERG were married on 12 June 1922 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.^{21,22,23,25,26,27,28,29} She was listed as "Stella" on their marriage license.

William was reportedly living in Chicago with his wife at the time of her death in 1929. Her address was listed as 2318 North Southport Avenue on her death certificate.

His Death Certificate states the he was "Never Married."

. Bill appeared in the census in 1930 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.²⁵ He was living in the household of his sister Lillian Kouldis and her family at 2510 West 47th Street. His occupation was "Helper, Truck." He was listed as Married, but there was no spouse living with him.

. He appeared in the census in 1940 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.³⁵ He resided at the Peerless Hotel at 648 Madison Avenue and his occupation was "Clerk, Hotel." His total wages in 1939 were $780. He was listed as "Single."

. He registered for the Military Draft in 1942 in Chicago, Cook County, IL. ³⁰ His address when he registered for the draft was 648 West Madison. He listed Thomas D. McGuire as his employer at that same address. His middle name was listed as Leonard and his place of birth was listed as Chicago.

He died on 17 June 1963 at the age of 70 in Quincy, Adams County, IL.^29,31,32 According to his Death Certificate, his Medical Cause of Death, Immediate Cause was "coronary occlusion," with an underlying cause as "ASHD." At the time of his death, he had been living at the VA Hospital in Hines, IL for 2 years and his occupation was Cab Driver. His place of death was listed as "Ill. S. x S. Home."

. Bill was buried in June 1963 in Quincy, Adams County, IL.^29,32 in Block 19, Lot 34 in the Sunset Cemetery.

Helen HERZBERG was born about 1924.³⁶ It is possible that Helen was a daughter in this family, but it must be confirmed.

From an e-mail from Paula Bailey to Gary Griggs: "Gary, remember I told you mom had an insurance policy for a HELEN HERZBERG taken out May 31, 1926. It said the person would be 2 on her next birthday. My mom was born May 28, 1925.

I sent the copy to Prudential. As I figured, they said it goes back over 20 years and they don't have any info because the policy lapsed for non-payment on August 26, 1939. So this person existed and someone paid the premiums until that time. I can not find ANY info on a Helen that would fit this person. Maybe we are missing a big piece by not being able to figure out who Helen is.

Why did mom have this, with William's 2 policies? The one he took out April 30, 1923, (indicated that he )would be 30 (on his) next birthday; the other was dated May 31, 1926, which listed he would be 34 (on his) next birthday. That was the same day he took out Helen's.

Who is this person and how does she fit in? Don't get it. This couldn't be my mom because she was listed as Willmae in Estelle's obit. If a sister, why wasn't she listed in the obit? Doesn't add up.

Just another question I don't think there is an answer to."
