Obituary Notes: "The community mourns the death of one of its oldest citizens, Wm. Schaefer, age 92. A large group of relatives and friends came to honor him, attending the funeral at St. John's Lutheran Church on Monday afternoon, Pastor M. Lemke officiating." Her sponsors were Friedrich Pergander (her paternal grandfather), Ernestine Wilde (a sister of her mother) and Justine (Pergande) Brandenburg (a grandaunt and first cousin, twice removed). (Her name is listed as Pergander in the church baptism record.) She was baptized on Feb. 28, 1878, and confirmed at the Ridgeville Church on April 10, 1892.

On Feb. 6, 1907, she was united in marriage with William Schaefer and five children were born to this union. One son, Leo, preceded her in death. Mrs. Schaefer lived her entire life in the Ridgeville community, where she was a devout member of St. John's Lutheran Church and for many years was secretary of the Ladies' Aid Society.

Mrs. Schaefer passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 2, 1951.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Wm. Schaefer; three sons, August of Hebron, Ill., Gerhardt at home, and Louis of Ridgeville; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond Schulz of Ridgeville; one brother, Philip Pergande; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Ludeking and Mrs. Conrad Brandau; 10 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Ridgeville church, the Rev. Eldor Toepel officiating. Interment was in the Ridgeville Cemetery." She was buried on 5 February 1951 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.9,25,26,32 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Leo Arnold SCHAEFER was born on 27 August 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.13,17,18,25,40 He was baptized on 25 September 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.41 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1920 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.2 Leo was confirmed on 16 May 1926 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.25 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.22 He died of diabetic complications on 16 January 1937 at the age of 26 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.17,25,40

Obituary Notes: "Leo Schaefer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schaefer of the Town of Wilton passed away early last Saturday morning, January 16. He had been afflicted with diabetes for a number of years, which left him in a weakened condition and not able to rally from an attack of influenza.

He was born on August 27, 1910, in the Town of Ridgeville. He attended St. John's Lutheran School in Ridgeville and was confirmed May 16, 1926. In 1927 the family moved to their new home near Wilton and he has resided there since. His age was 26 years, four months and 19 days.

Deceased is survived by his parents; three brothers, August, Gerhardt and Louis; one sister, Martha; two grandmothers, Mrs. Wilhelmine Schaefer and Mrs. Wilhelmine Pergande; one sister-in-law, Mrs. August Schaefer; one nephew, Robert Schaefer; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, which were largely attended, were held in the Ridgeville Church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C. E. Berg officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery." Leo was buried on 19 January 1937 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.9,25,40 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
