He died on 25 August 1945 at the age of 74 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁵ He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.³³ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Augusta Amelia Gehrke, second born and first daughter of John August and Maria Mittlestaedt Gehrke, was born in 1880 at Ridgeville, Monroe County, WI. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Ridgeville, WI. She attended the Enterprise and Lutheran parochial schools of Ridgeville through the 8th grade.
She was married to William Fredrick Schmasow in 1897. William was born in 1871. To this union eight children were born, Namely Gertrude Marie Louise, Vera Ida Birdle, Rosella Edna, Earl Victor, Leona, William E. (Howard), Clarence, and Rosina.
Augusta died in 1947 and William died in 1945.

Friedrich Wilhelm "Frederick" SCHMASOW Jr. and Louisa UNKNOWN (SCHMASOW) were married in 1891. Louisa UNKNOWN (SCHMASOW)¹⁵ was born in 1871. She died on 17 April 1895 at the age of 24.¹¹ She was buried in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ Louise Schmasow died April 17, 1895, and is buried with their son, Ernest, in the Ridgeville Lutheran Cemetery. Ernest Schmasow died November 17, 1892.
