12. Paul P. SCHMIEDER was born in May 1882 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.1,5,6 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.5 His occupation was "Farm Laborer." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.6 He was living in the household of his brother George and his occupation was "Hired Hand, Working Out." Paul appeared in the census in 1920 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.11 His occupation was "Farmer, General Farm."

Paul P. SCHMIEDER and Lydia BOLD were married on 12 June 1919.1 Lydia BOLD was born about 1900 in Wisconsin.11 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.11

Virgil George SCHMIEDER was born on 10 August 1920 in Monroe County, WI.16,17 He died on 14 August 2006 at the age of 86 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.16

Obituary Notes: "Virgil G. Schmieder, 86, of Sparta, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born on Aug. 10, 1920, to Paul and Lydia (Bold) Schmieder. He grew up in Tomah and graduated from Tomah High School in 1939.

Virgil joined the National Guard and served from June 12, 1939, until Feb. 2, 1940. He entered the U.S. Army on July 31, 1942 being discharged Nov. 20, 1945. He served overseas with the Medics. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Virgil attended Milwaukee School of Engineering from 1948 until he graduated in 1950. He worked for the Ladish Company as an engineer from 1950 until 1990. After retirement he continued living in St. Francis, WI, until he moved to Sparta in 2002.

He is survived by three sisters, Bernadine Van Kirk of Sparta, Beverly Heilman of Tomah and Irene (Ron) Jensen of Sparta; two brothers, Paul Schmieder of Sparta and Martin (Ardell) Schmieder of Evansville, WI; nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Smith; and two brothers, Clayton Rich and Charles Rich.

Funeral services were held today (Thursday), Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 2112, Sparta, was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tomah."
