Carl Ludwig "Charlie" SONNENBURG was born on 9 December 1855 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).^1,19,20 He emigrated in 1873 from Preussen (Prussia).^19,21,22,23 (The 1900 and 1910 Census records listed his emigration year as 1871; the 1920 listed it as 1873. It is believed to be 1873 because that is what the census records indicate for his father.) He appeared in the census in 1880 in Bloom Township, Deuel County, SD.²⁴ His residence was in "The Dakota Territory" and his occupation was "Farmer." Charlie was naturalized on 24 June 1884 in Clear Lake, Deuel County, SD.¹⁹ He appeared in the census in 1900 in Hidewood Township, Deuel County, SD.²² He was listed as "Carl" and his occupation was "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Hidewood Township, Deuel County, SD.²³ His occupation was "Farmer, General Farm." Charlie appeared in the census in 1920 in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.²¹ His occupation was "Retired Farmer." (His surname was spelled "Sonenberg.") He died on 12 February 1923 at the age of 67 in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.¹⁹ He was buried in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.¹⁹

Carl Ludwig "Charlie" SONNENBURG and Anna Marie "Mary" BUNGERT were married on 5 February 1880 in Tunnel City, Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.^15,19,25 They had eleven children. Anna Marie "Mary" BUNGERT, daughter of Christian BUNGERT and Catherina JUNG, was born on 10 August 1858 in Monroe County, WI.^19,26 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁶ She appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁷ Mary appeared in the census in 1880 in Bloom Township, Deuel County, SD.²⁴ She appeared in the census in 1900 in Hidewood Township, Deuel County, SD.²² She appeared in the census in 1910 in Hidewood Township, Deuel County, SD.²³ Mary appeared in the census in 1920 in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.²¹ She died in June 1928 at the age of 69 in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.¹⁹ She was buried in Estelline, Hamlin County, SD.¹⁹
