Obituary Notes: "Died, on the morning of July 5, 1886, at his residence near Water Mill, Jeremiah G. Williams. Deceased was born at Williamston (sic, Williamstown), New York, March 5, 1822; removed to Wisconsin in 1847 and settled at Manitowoc Rapids; was married to Anna Rebecca Bon, July 27, 1852. In 1859 his wife died after a short illness, leaving three children, namely, Edmond, Joseph and Hedding. Edmond and Joseph lived to see their father pass quietly away, but Hedding died when quite young. Mr. Williams married Mary Ellis, his present wife, March 10, 1862.

Deceased has lived in Monroe County for many years, and has a large number of friends and acquaintances. He was a soldier and took an active part in the war of the rebellion, where he contracted disability which resulted in consumption of the liver and spleen. For a number of years he has had a hard struggle to maintain his family and procure the necessities of life, but at last he has been mustered out. His duty is done and he will be summoned to no more roll calls. He was a devoted Christian and a kind father and as such his memory will linger with us.

The funeral took place at the family residence, the Rev. James Barnett officiating. The remains were escorted to the cemetery at Tomah by members of Henry W. Cressy Post No. 42, G.A.R, of which he was an honored member."

He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.37,40 in the Oak Grove Cemetery (Lot OP 2 53). (Buried with him in this grave lot is Nathan B. Williams, with no dates of birth or death. Jeremiah Giles "Jerry" WILLIAMS and Mary B. HOWARD had the following children:

Mary Ella WILLIAMS.

Jeremiah Giles "Jerry" WILLIAMS and Anna Rebecca "Ann" BON were married on 27 July 1852 in Manitowoc Rapids Township, Manitowoc County, WI.1,6,20,36 (She was not listed with her husband in the 1860 Census, nor was their son Edward; they could not be located anywhere in the Wisconsin or Illinois census records.) Anna Rebecca "Ann" BON, daughter of John Whitman BON and Harriet Matilda RAYMOND, died in 1859 in Wisconsin.12,47 She was born in Illinois.5,43 (The 1880 Census for her son Edmund listed her birth place as Ohio; the 1900 for him listed it as Illinois. The Ohio reference may have been to his step-mother's birth place.)

(It must be confirmed that Anna was a member of this family.)

Jeremiah Giles "Jerry" WILLIAMS and Anna Rebecca "Ann" BON had the following children:

i.

Joseph W. "Joe" WILLIAMS.

Mark "Edmund" WILLIAMS was born on 8 June 1853 in Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County, WI.1,5,11,12,20,35,40,43,48,49,50,51 (The back of this photo contains the note: "Edmund Williams, Uncle Jerry's son.")

In the 1860 Census, "Mark E." and his brother Joseph were both listed as age 7--presumably twins. In the 1870 Census, "Edmund" and Joseph were listed as age 17--again presumably twins. Only the two boys were listed in each census, so it is very likely that "Mark E." and "Edmund" were the same person.

His paternal grandfather's name was "Edmund" and it is possible that he was named after him. (His name was spelled "Edmond" in his father's obituary, but that is believed to have been an error.)

Hedding WILLIAMS died before 1860 at the age of 0.20 (He was not listed with his parents in the 1860 Census, so he probably died before then. His father's obituary noted that he died as an infant.) He was born before 1860.20
