Anna "Louise" ZELLMER and Karl Friedrich Wilhelm "Charles" AFFELDT were married on 2 April 1867.27,47,49,50,51

(The June 1870 Census listed a Robert Affeldt as a "son" of Charles and Louise, with an age of 9/12 years old and a birth month of October 1869. Because he was not listed with their family in the 1880 Census or in their church communion record in 1889, he may have died as a young boy. A more likely possibility is that, because Robert's birth date was within four months of the birth date of another son, Julius--February 1870--it is likely that Robert was not their son. Descendants of Charles and Louise state that they had never heard of a son named Robert, so it is likely that he was not a member of the family, but was just living in their household at the time of the Census.) Karl Friedrich Wilhelm "Charles" AFFELDT, son of Karl Bogislov AFFELDT and Wilhelmine Friederike WENDT, was born on 12 October 1841 in Preussen (Prussia).1,27,48,49,52,53 (He was listed as "Charles" in the 1870 Census, as "Chas." in 1880, and as "Carl F." in 1910.) He emigrated in 1865 from Preussen (Prussia).49,54 He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.47 He was listed as "Charles" and his occupation was "Farmer." His household consisted of Charles, age 32; his wife, Louise, age 30; four children from Louise's first marriage: William, 12; Herman, 10; Louise, 7; and Bertha, 4; and two children from her marriage to Charles: August, 2; and Robert, 9/12. (It is doubtful that Robert was their son, but he was listed in the Census as such.)
Charles appeared in the census in 1880 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.48 His household consisted of "Charles," age 48, occupation "Farmer;" his wife, "Sinviane" (not legible), age 44; and their children, Bertha, age 14; August, age 12; "Jule," age 10; and Rudolph, age 8. The birth places of Charles and his wife were listed as Prussia, and that of the children was Wisconsin. (His surname is listed in the Ancestry.com census record index as "Offeldt.") He was Lutheran in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.55 and was listed on the Memberbership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The latter three are Louise's parents, Christian and Auguste Zellmer and their youngest son, Julius.

Herman's surname was spelled "Schear."

Notes from Bill Scheer on 2/15/2005: "About three years ago in Dodge Co., I found the original Scheer house was still standing. I found it through the abstract office, as the court house had burned down many years ago along with all the records.

The people that own it now had started to remodel the house. They removed the siding and found a brick and oak timber house. Now I am the proud owner of two oak pegs and a square nail from the house. Interesting to see the knife marks on the pegs may have been made by my great-grand father, Herman, Sr. He was known as a farmer and carpenter."

.
Herman died on 7 March 1866 at the age of 32 in Dodge County, WI.27,58 He was buried in Dodge County, WI.56,58 He is probably buried in Immanuel Cemetery, but no records exist.
