He also purchased an 80-acre section immediately to the west of the above parcel, as well as a 55-acre section to the north. The properties eventually became the family farm of Will Vroman. Mr. Vandervort was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting in New York State as a member of Co. C, Ninth Regiment, N.Y. Heavy Artillery. (He was wounded at Cedar Creek, VA.) He came with his parents to Monroe County in 1865 and lived in this county until Nov. 7, 1921, when he and his wife moved to Black River Falls to be near their sons. His last illness was brief and death came unexpectedly. The funeral was held at Black River Falls and his body was brought to the LaGrange Cemetery for burial. Besides his wife, Mr. Vandervort leaves two sons, Eugene R. and Emile of B.R.Falls, two daughters, Mrs. Roy Gillette, Duluth, Minn., and Harriet (Ernest) Dickinson, Tomah."
