He was baptized on 2 April 1865 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.²² at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ Otto was confirmed on 6 April 1879 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.²² at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.¹² He was living with his parents and his occupation was "Works on Farm." He appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ Otto was Lutheran in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵⁶ and was listed on the Memberbership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.²¹ His occupation was "Farming, General Farm." He died on 13 February 1917 at the age of 51.²⁸ Otto was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.³³ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Otto Georg BARTHELS and Karoline Emilie Ida "Millie" BACKHAUS were married on 31 May 1892 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.^29,39,54 Karoline Emilie Ida "Millie" BACKHAUS, daughter of Karl Friedrich BACKHAUS and Johanna MATZKE, was born on 6 March 1872 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.^{9,22,39,54,57} (Her name was listed as "Millie" in the 1880 Census. Her surname was spelled "Bakehaus" in her obituary.) She was baptized on 21 April 1872 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.²² at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.¹² Millie was confirmed on 18 April 1886 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.²² at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸ She appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.²¹ Millie appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁹ She died on 9 December 1947 at the age of 75.³⁹

Obituary Notes: "Emile Caroline Ida Bakehaus-Martini was born on March 6, 1872, in the town of Adrian, Monroe County, Wisconsin, and had lived in this community all her life.

She was united in marriage with Otto Bartels and two children were born to this union, one of whom preceded the mother in death. Her husband also preceded her in death. In 1918 she came to Tomah and made this city her home until the time of her death.

On June 4, 1925, she was united in marriage with John Martini of this city, who survives.

On Saturday morning, Dec. 6, she suffered a paralytic stroke and, while hope for her recovery was entertained for a time, her condition became steadily worse and on Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 1947, she passed away at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Surviving are her husband, John Martini; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Benjamin; a step-daughter, Mrs. Grace Matthews; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Bartels, all of Tomah, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Eunice Sonnenberg of Wilton, besides many other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were at St. Paul's Lutheran church on Friday afternoon, Dec. 12, at 2 o'clock, the Rev. H. Schaller officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery." She was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.³³ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
