251. Joseph GRIGGS Sr. was born on 12 October 1748 in Ashford Township, Windham County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.¹⁶⁸ (According to the LDS Church IGI Index, he was a relative of Joseph Smith, the Prophet.) He died on 26 August 1840 at the age of 91 in Connecticut.¹⁶⁷

Joseph GRIGGS Sr. and Rebeckah "Rebecca" CHAFFEE were married on 17 November 1774 in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.^168,196 (She may have been a relative of Joseph Smith, the Prophet of the LDS Church. The IGI records list her children and husband as Smith's relatives, but they do not list her husband's parents as such. So the connection may have been through her family or through her husband's mother's family.) Rebeckah "Rebecca" CHAFFEE was born on 14 August 1749 in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.²²³ (Her surname may have been Chase.) She died after 1797 at the age of 48.
