18. Heinrich Carl Christian "Henry" KLINGE was born on 13 May 1867 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.3,4,9,10,11 He was baptized on 30 June 1867 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.9 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was confirmed on 2 April 1882 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.9 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. After 1897 Henry was a farmer.11 "Henry served on the Sunny Ridge School Board and operated a snow plow during the winter months, in addition to farming. He was one of the most prominent farmers in Monroe County, WI. The men and women (of the family) worked together milking cows, plowing and harvesting the fields. The gathering of eggs from the chicken house and feeding the fowl were the children's chores. Recreation included barn dances and family picnics." He appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.14 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.15 His occupation was "Farmer, General Farm." Henry lived his 120-acre farm in the SW corner of Section 2 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI about 1915.19 He appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.20 His occupation was "None." He was ill with after he lost four fingers in an accident in 1924.11 Monroe County Heritage Book Article #28: "When a barn needed to be raised, the neighbors would pitch in and help. In 1924, Louis Bernhardt, a neighbor, built a new barn. Sometime later Henry and Marvin Bernhardt were in the barn cutting up corn stocks in the silo filler, when all of a sudden Henry got his right hand caught in the machine, and before he was able to pull his hand free he lost four fingers and part of his hand; only his little finger remained. The wound was wrapped in bed sheets and Dr. Bell was called to save the hand."


Henry died on 20 July 1925 at the age of 58.11 Monroe County Heritage Book Article #28: "Tragedy struck again on July 20, 1925. Henry was sharpening a scythe on a grindstone when it burst and a portion of it hit him just below the heart, killing him instantly." He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.21 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Heinrich Carl Christian "Henry" KLINGE and Bertha Mary BUROW were married on 29 July 1897 in Monroe County, WI.11,22 (She is listed as "Bertha Anna Burrow" in the Marriage Registration Index.) Bertha Mary BUROW, daughter of Gottlieb BUROW and Ernestine PREHN, was born on 22 March 1877 in Germany.14,23 She emigrated in 1884 from Germany.15 She was confirmed on 22 March 1891 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.23 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bertha appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.14 She appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.15 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.20 In 1925 Bertha was a Clerk in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI. Monroe County Heritage Book Article #28: The year after her husband, Henry, was killed "Bertha and the children sold the farm and moved to Tomah and bought a house. The years following, Bertha worked at the Post Office and managed the Butterfly Cafe in Tomah."

"Bertha was the family historian, enlightening her grandchildren with stories of the past. Throughout her life, she had many friends and was a inspiration to all." She appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.24 She was a widow and she and her three sons lived at 1305 (?) Stoughton Avenue in the 2nd Ward. She died on 21 January 1971 at the age of 93 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11,25 Bertha was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.21 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
